Vizrt announced they have purchased NewTek. The big announcement came just before the 2019 NAB show in Las Vegas. The acquisition creates the largest company dedicated to IT-based media production in the broadcast industry.
Vizrt, the global leader of real time 3D broadcast graphics have purchased NewTek, the creators of the TriCaster video switcher. The TriCaster was revolutionary in redefining the cost of live multi-camera production and instrumental in the evolution toward IP infrastructure within a media production environment. The acquisition will benefit the whole digital content creation industry as these two leaders in their respective fields merge.
Though the two companies have traditionally focused on different areas, the merger will create a complimentary offering. Vizrt produces high-end applications for broadcasters, while NewTek having concentrated on more consumer price based technology that was heralded for breaking technological barriers.
“Vizrt delivers their top tier broadcast solutions via their direct sales organization while NewTek uses an established reseller channel. With the merger, the company will have an even more global market presence by covering both the highest end of broadcast and the global wide reseller market.
The combined companies will now be a disruptive player in the industry and lead media production teams forward toward a software and IP-based environment.”
Vizrt provides real-time 3D graphics, studio automation, sports analysis and asset management tools for the broadcast clients in more than 100 countries. As they continued to add new clients daily, their system offerings came to include interactive and virtual solutions, animations, maps, weather, video editing and compositing systems as well.
